Jacobabad
Introduction
Jacobabad district takes its name from the headquarters town and owes its origin to General John Jacob, who was the first Political Superintendent and Commandant of the Sindh Horse in 1847.
It was formerly known as Upper Sindh Frontier district, being the northern most area of the Sindh province with the Frontier Crimes Regulations as the law of the land. The Frontier Crimes Regulations were repealed in the year 1952 where-after it was named as Jacobabad district. Nasirabad sub-division of Sibi agency was added to the Jacobabad district on 1st May, 1961, which as present no more in the district.
The district lies between 27˚ - 55' to 28˚ - 29' north latitudes and 68˚ - 00' to 69˚ - 44' cast longitudes. It is bounded by Dera Ghazi Khan district of the Punjab province in the north-cast and by Sibi/Nasirabad district of Balochistan province in the north. In the south lie the districts of Sukkur, Larkana and Shikarpur. Sukkur district also forms the castern border of Jacobabad along river Indus which flows with a varying course and does not maintain the dividing line between Jacobabad and Sukkur. The total area of the district is 5, 278 square kilometers.
